Blue Water Newsletter - Birchfield Edition

Editorial

If you have not guessed by now, this newsletter is edited by me, Graham Brindley, chairman of Blue Water. I must say the idea of becoming a press baron has its appeals. I can write all sorts of things about our members hopefully without getting sued (only joking). In the coming season I will be producing regular newsletters to keep our members up to date with the progress of the club, and indeed its members. With the excellent site facilities, flexibility, and hopefully plenty of sunshine, I am sure there will be a lot of skiing taking place.

Birchfield School Leads The Way

The boys of Birchfield school Albrighton, near Wolverhampton have led the way for Blue Water Waterski Club by being the first school to book a 5 week beginners course. At the beginning of this year the club became affiliated to British Water Ski there by guaranteeing quality coaching for it's members. There to greet the boys at the Dosthill Waterski site near Tamworth was Graham Brindley Chairman and Dr Sandra Brindley Treasurer of the club. Graham is a British Water Ski Coach and boat driver who with Keith Knox Senior Coach and British Water Ski West Midlands Regional Chairman Instructed the Birchfield boys on the art of Waterskiing.

Blue Water's Origins Plus Mr Das Gupta And Mr Merriman's Exploits.

The origins of Blue Water can be traced back to 3 years ago when as an Instructor at Dudley Water Ski Club I was called by Mr Das Gupta to ask if I could arrange for 19 school leavers to water ski as a leaving day experience. "When would you like this to take place Mr Das Gupta?" " Next Wednesday- came the reply -we have been let down by another sporting provider My thoughts at the time will remain in my head! With a bit of pushing and shoving we managed to run the day with great success. All 19 boys were taught to water ski in one day, no mean feat Then came the real challenge - Mr Das Gupta wanted to try it! Joking aside folks Mr Das Gupta and Mr Newey performed very well. Three years later having made the decision with my wife Sandra to change direction in life and do something I have always wanted to do, I decided to concentrate on Watersports full time. This decision was helped by the enthusiasm and encouragement which I received from Mr Das Gupta and Mr Merriman of Birchfield School.

Then came the Birchfield Water Sports Open Day. Armed to the teeth with equipment including water ski boat, British Water Ski simulator, water ski equipment and scuba diving kit four of us descended on Birchfield's grounds. During the day most of the boys sat in the boat tried the simulator and were treated to a few breaths of compressed air from Gareth's scuba equipment Then came Mr MerrimanI - who bravely and successfully negotiated the simulator in front of a large crowd.

My thanks go to Keith Knox, Keith Martin and Gareth Roberts for all their help on the day and especially to Mr Das Gupta and Mr Merriman for allowing it to happen. May I wish all of you an enjoyable and progressive season and please tell your families and friends about us. It would be great to see you strutting your stuff on the water surrounded by them. Hopefully they will also try our great sport.

Good Skiing.

Graham
